One of the biggest concerns about going back to school is the cost of education. Did you know 76% of students receive some sort of financial aid! This is according to the American Council of Education.

The main types of financial aid are the following:
- Grants - a grant is an award, and usually they don't need to be paid back. You can apply for grants from local foundations or from the government.
- Loans - A loan is money that you borrow from a bank or government to pay for your education. Usually government loans have the best terms to pay them back. Some common loans are Stafford Loans, Federal Perkins loans, and PLUS loans.
- Scholarships - a scholarship is similar to a grant in that it is an award. However there are usually conditions around keeping it. You usually need to maintain a particular level of grades.
Applying for financial aid can be done through the free application for federal financial aid (FAFSA) form. To apply you will need the following information:
- Social Security number
- Government issued ID
- a recent tax return or bank statement
- School Code - your enrollment counselor will give this to you.
Your financial aid counselor will walk you through all the above steps. Make sure you ask questions if you get confused. They are there to help you.
